With concern growing about the national debt, educators are being called upon to include it as a curriculum topic.
Understanding Fiscal Responsibility is a curriculum, developed by faculty and students at Teachers College, Columbia University, aimed at teaching the national debt, national deficit and federal budget to K-12 students and beyond. With the national debt growing at an alarming rate, the time is ripe to start the discourse about lowering the debt and cutting the deficit to ensure that posterity continue to live the American Dream.
The EdLab is producing and marketing the curriculum package as well as creating digital resources for educators, students, community leaders, social activists, and others. This will include media content, supplementary materials, venues for community sharing, and online professional development. The EdLab has also created the UFR website where the curriculum can be downloaded and a plethora of resources for teachers and resources related to fiscal policy can be found.
