Pressible was a library publishing project that supported scholarly communication from 2010 to 2019. As a forked and customized WordpressMU platform, Pressible made it possible for Teachers College community members and affiliates to launch blogging-focused, multi-author websites on a multi-site platform.
Pressible was launched in 2010 as a publishing platform with features that set it apart from other publishing solutions available to individuals and groups seeking a fast-paced, scholarly online publishing presence. In mid-2008, the Library Management Team asked the Publishing & Design Team to provide an effective platform for “social” publishing projects — a platform more accommodating for multimedia than the Library's Open Journal Systems installation, but without the customizations that a more custom platform requires (such as TCR's platform, Contentworks). EdLab adopted the WordPress platform and released a beta of Pressible in February 2010. We proceeded to experiment with various design and technical configurations until Pressible's public launch in June 2010. Network features like Re-posting (like Tumblr) and the Related Content Links (using the Thomson Reuters Open Calais API) were innovations beyond our original goals. For nearly 10 years, Pressible provided a web-based utility for the College as well as an external audience.
