Teachers College Record Seminar Minutes of Meeting
At EdLab's Development & Research meeting this past Tuesday, I presented how I gathered interesting user statistics for most popular and least popular articles on the Teachers College Record website and how we can extend this to other websites such as PocketKnowledge and Gottesman Library. Note: The scripts are password protected and in case you want to refer to it, please get in touch with me. In the discussion phase, we came up with some excellent feedback improving the Teachers College Record website and building some intelligence into it. Some of the suggestions were:-
  1. Search Functionality - with a rank based retrieval of search and also include a advanced search feature.
  2. RSS Feed kind of system which alerts people subscribed to it with new articles of interest published. Also it can be made as a widget which can be plugged in RSS Readers like Google Reader.
  3. Allowing personal customization of the TC homepage for the user.
  4. A new tab displaying popular articles which are most viewed over a period of a month/year and merge this with some of the recommended articles which is automatically recommended based on the user profile.
  5. Automating Related Articles section which gives out information based on number of citations given to that article by other articles and rank them to bring the top 4 or 5.
  6. Integrating Google Scholar in the search feature of the TCR website.
