Meet the Staff - Jackson

Jackson is a first-year graduate student, pursuing an MI at Rutgers University’s School of Communication and Information, with concentrations in LIS and Data Science. A NJ émigré, his LIS experience stretches between several public libraries, scattered across Middlesex and Monmouth counties, as well as the Edison Papers, an archival institution that organizes and curates records related to the eponymous inventor.

When not in the stacks — either at TC or at his other job, as a law librarian — Jackson enjoys reading, running, going to the movies, and spending time with friends and family.

A question and answer (Q&A) format with Library Associate (Technical Services) Jackson! Continue reading to join the conversation.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was in late elementary school, I recall being outspoken about working for a miscellaneous state government office.

What was your first job?

At age sixteen, I worked in walking distance of my childhood home — i.e., as a cashier at my local supermarket.

What has been your best job?

Not counting my current jobs, my best work experiences transpired while I was employed at the Sayreville Free Public Library — in part, because it was my first LIS job but also because the people there, coworkers and patrons alike, were all so welcoming and kind.

Your favorite meal:

My father’s homemade jambalaya.

Are you a morning or night person?:

Before starting my LIS career, I worked at a slew of coastal coffee shops that mutually had me waking up around 5:30 AM most days of the week. Consequently, I have been molded into a morning person, which is undeniably nice at points — e.g., during the summer, when the world has yet to warm up and everyone around is still catching z’s — and undeniably troublesome at other points — e.g., when I’m ready to sleep by 11 PM but am watching monster truck videos with friends.

A delicious dessert:

My mother's banana bread.

Song you love no matter how many times you hear it:

“Did You See Him?” by Bill Frisell.

A country you’d like to visit:

Either paternally-motivated Ireland or maternally-motivated Colombia.

A book you strongly recommend?

Stoner by John Williams.

A sport you enjoy playing (or watching)?

I’ve spent the past several years getting into basketball.

TOP THREE….Best places to read?

In the kitchen with cats, in the grass with dogs, or entirely alone at the library.

The strangest thing I’ve ever done is…

…take an unprompted, overnight trip to the upper peninsula of Michigan.

The most fascinating person I’ve ever met is…

…my sister. Tough as nails, possessing ceaseless wit — I am thankful to have her in my life.
