Future Textile Library - 2017

This showcase of responsive and tangible textile processes and designs was installed in the Second Floor Reading Room of Gottesman Libraries with interactive workshops that focussed on wearable technology, fashion, and data.

The Future Textile Library installation presented selected garments, processes, samples and functionalities of the work by Wearable Media Studio, a collective of artists working at the intersection of textile and technology.

Patrons of the library were able to interact with the existing work, see how the garments were made and even make small versions of their own at three free workshops.

Artists Yuchen Zhang, Jingwen Zhu and Hellyn Teng guided library patrons in an introduction to wearable technology, data, fabrication and fashion and have hands-on projects with sensors, LEDs, programming and wearable elements to take home.

Wearable Media Studio also hosted an artist panel at Teachers College with speakers Sabine Seymour

: Founder and CEO of SUPA, Urmila Mohan: Bard Graduate Center/AMNH Postdoctoral Fellow in Museum Anthropology and Annelie Koller: Human Ecologist, Founder The Lady Tech Guild.
