About the Mission



"An Out-of-this-World Immersive Experience (a.k.a., Mars Mission)" was an immersive, 70-minute experience at the Smith Learning Theater that ran during the 2017-18 academic year. Library staff developed this original event to showcase the unique  capabilities of the theater. The following Learning Theater Spotlight provides a quick overview of the event:

How to Attend



This is an immersive, 70-minute experience in the Library’s newest learning environment, the Smith Learning Theater. Come ready to use your creativity, imagination, and collaborate with others from the Teachers College community to take on an out-of-this-world challenge!

- This experience is designed for 24 participants. Please cancel your reservation in advance if your plans change.
- Doors open 10 minutes before event start time and last entry is 10 minutes after event start time.
- For participants 13 years old and up.
- Please expect loud noises and low light.
- Please be prepared to stow away your personal technology and items.
- Participants may be photographed. Your attendance confirms your assent to a Teachers College media release.

Nestled within the gothic walls of the Gottesman Libraries at Teachers College is an unexpected venue that combines leading-edge design, technology, and service to deliver unforgettable learning events.



Overview of the Learning Theater Environment



In Fall of 2017 the Gottesman Libraries opened the Smith Learning Theater, a 6600 square foot event space on the fourth floor of Russell Hall.
