Progressive Educator
Date: 1930 Event: Dr. (Richard) Thomas Alexander was the driving force behind the formation of the New College, an experimental college for teachers started in 1930s. The college lasted for seven years from 1932 to 1939. Alexander came to Teachers College in the early 1920s and was an authority on European education, especially German education. He undertook the experiment as one not only built on the liberal arts, but rather on the persistent problems of living.
