Amy Spinelli and Earshot at the EdLab Seminar

Earshot analyzes a teacher's voice and provides data analytics about key indicators of effective instruction to help students gain the skills they need to be successful. Amy Spinelli, the CEO of Earshot, visited EdLab in October 2017 to discuss this technology, share early experiences, and relay her organization's vision of the future of being an educator.

Excerpts from the discussion:

@11:27 Devan Goto: Maybe one day AI will be able to incorporate emotions and psychological theories to become more "human." Which may allow them to mimic what great teachers can do: empower, motivate, and challenge students.

@20:52 Joann Vazquez: I wonder how long it takes for teachers to get used to the fact that they are being constantly recorded. Does it have any effect on their delivery? I'd be self-conscious in the beginning, for sure!

@24:05 Sara Hardman: Honestly, I have a bit of a difficult time believe this data accumulation could directly cause teachers to focus more on their students. I feel like it's the same with the fitbit. People who use it are more concerned about reaching a data goal, and a byproduct is having to walk more. But the emphasis is still on the data rather than the walking.
