
New York and Chicago are doing it; is your library? Now patrons of these well known public libraries can "check out" WiFi hotspots for personal use. These portable Internet boxes are intended to expand Internet access for low-income families and those who do not have broadband access at home, which according to NYPL encompasses 55% of their patrons. NYPL President Tony Marx hopes this move will substantially lessen the digital divide.
