With the growing interest in ways that new technologies can carry biases of one sort or another, we might want to consider the bias inherent in library cataloging. A recent piece in CityLab by Amanda Ros calls attention to the issue of bias in cataloging. Note that she advises patrons to consult with a librarian if they encounter difficulty finding items that may not be cataloged in the most expected way.
