Designing for Learning
You can lead a horse to water (but you can't make it drink the water!). Similarly, it is easy to create new learning technologies, but it is hard to make someone use it and learn from it. Google Design published an article on how they are trying to make learning easier by designing the product right and with the user in mind. How? 'Primer' is a new(ish) mobile app that helps people learn digital marketing concepts in five minutes or less. - Google first focused on creating a good dashboard to satisfy a range of learners (passive, curious and active). - They then focussed on getting the actual lesson right by breaking it down into a stack of cards that the learners can get through quickly to give a sense of micro-accomplishment. - Finally they created a set of activities for the learners to perform at different stages of the lesson (quick starts, middle activities or do something at the end). All together this made the app an easy to use and easy to learn with tool. Read more here.
